A Second Trip to Boca Chica Beach

Almost a month ago already, how does that happen, we went back to Boca Chica. We got on the bus to Boca Chica in a fun, markety, part of town where there are good buys to be had called El Duarte.

I took some pictures of the market as we were driving by.

I love the carved pineapples on the street carts! I haven't purchased any yet, but I love the look of them!

Along with the market stalls and street vendors. there are vendors walking next to the buses, cars, and on the street selling sunglasses, chips (pictured above), ice cream, popsicles, peanuts, phone cards, water, etc.

Pica Pollo is fried chicken people. And Dominicans love fried chicken so much that there is a Pica Pollo place on about every 3 blocks in most parts of town, closer together in some parts! And, as above, they usually serve Chinese food too, and Dominican food, called Criolla. By Chinese food, I mean mostly Chow Fun or some other rice dish and some egg rolls, not a lot of variety. And, it's often Asian people running the restaurants. I'm not sure how that migration process happened, but there are a quite a lot of Asians here. There's even a sushi place near our apartment.

Some of the buildings as we were leaving the city, heading toward the beach!

A cool wall around a park.

And, back to Boca Chica. This is the mangrove tree covered island that I had read about in the guidebook, but hadn't even really noticed on our first trip there. You can swim out to the island pretty easily, but I didn't want to go alone. So I went to a buoy that was part way there.

Wil tasting one of the best candies ever! And, I'm not a huge fan of coconut. We had tried them on our first trip to Boca Chica, so when I saw the same kid selling them, I stopped him and got photos this time. The best way to describe them is that the center is like a Martha Washington chocolate (look up the recipe if you want, it is basically coconut and sweetened condensed milk, I think) and the outer red shell is like the candy coating on a candied apple.

Wil was having some Presidente beer and a pina colada, oh my!

It was a little dark and gray at the beach for awhile, we thought it was going to rain.

We enjoyed another fabulous, deep fried fish lunch!

I asked the candy seller for a photo as he was passing by again! He really likes to smile!
