Empanada of the Day! A New Favorite!

Though I jokingly wrote that I might post the picture of the empanada stand from the last featured empanada with a different empanada, I decided against that.

This is our favorite colmado (corner store). I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but delivery guys from the colmados ride around on motorcycles and deliver everything that they sell at the colmado. We use the service most for the 3 gallon bottles of water. But, we have, and one may, call and ask for 4 plantains, a slice of cheese, rolls, rum, whatever they sell there! So cool and yet so ridonculous! I try to walk there for everything except the water. They even carry the bottles up our winding staircase! They are also very nice to the local gringo (me).

A few days ago I was in buying something, and one of the guys asked if I needed water and he made a hand motion like "up the stairs." I said that we still had a bottle. Then, when Wil was home last weekend, he called to order something to be delivered, so I asked him to add a bottle of water if they were making the trip. He described the location based on me! "You know, where the gringo lives. And he wants a bottle of water, too, please." They were out of water. Wil teased them, asking them to find some for me. Sure enough, when the delivery arrived, he brought a bottle of water.

This is the empanada stand that I frequent the most, D'Baez. It is part of our favorite colmado and ties for the best price in the area at 25 pesos.

Though I did not use a flash, the pictures are a little wonky in this post. I wanted you to get to see the inside of the last featured empanada, the salsa pizza. As you can see, it is large shredded white (mozzarella?) cheese. I actually got this one when it was fairly warm. It was also fairly delicious!

But, my new favorite is the res empanada from this same vendor. It was so tasty! The beef was ground and seasoned somewhat like taco meat. It was also warm, so pretty much a little bit of awesome!

i love that you have become a mile-post of sorts in your neighborhood. are you having fun with the 'man? is he feeling better? are you ready for the b-i-z-i weekend? are you excited to almost be older?

Man is feeling better...we are pretty much ready for tomorrow I think. He has to buy some more things in the morning.

Ivan is here with us tonight. He's not much of a partier (he's not a partier at all), so we are staying in and Wil is cooking for us.

Wil and I finally had some fun this evening. He was here for about an hour between picking Ivan up at the airport and when Welks and Kenny dropped off Ivan at our place so Ho could do her bachelorette stuff with her girls. I'm sure that's a tea totaler of a good time as well!

I'm excited to finally be as old as you are!!!

hey Joelfre, happy birthday this weekend, you might be too busy to blog so I'm sending happy birthday wishes early. I'm studying for a test this weekend while you're having what sounds like lots of fun.

I'm not so into the empanadas, but I'd love to try the limoncillos. They're so cute

have a great weekend!!!

love you,
maryanne

Thanks Maryanne!!

Remember my birthday last year? What fun!!!

It is shaping up to be interesting and so far, not unfun...

I have spent all day with the groom, whom I barely know. To me, that is funny.

Wil is off doing things, unfortunately, they are taking longer than he had planned. He sounded stressed when I talked to him a while ago.

Good luck on your studying and thanks for the birthday wishes!!

love you too!
